Controlling Asthma in St. Louis
CASL

Controlling Asthma in St. Louis (CASL), a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded demonstration site, is striving to achieve population level changes in asthma morbidity for children ages 2 thru 17. We are working in collaboration with many partners in our community to improve important components that provide asthma care or asthma care related services, while working to provide linkages across these components in our community. The CASL project includes work with primary care health centers, community pharmacies, schools, community social service agencies, third-party payers, and people living with asthma.

Asthma 411

Asthma 411 is an innovative program that promotes the use of a consulting physician model in working with school districts and schools in collaboration with school nurses.

Community Asthma Program

The CAP seeks to improve the care for persons living with asthma through training of health care providers and health center/practice staff to most appropriately treat and manage the disease.

Home Outreach Asthma H.E.L.P.

Health advocates from Catholic Community Services Midtown and St. Jane Center visit families of children with asthma and work with them to achieve better asthma control and improved quality of life.

Asthma Friendly Pharmacies

Asthma Friendly Pharmacy pharmacists and pharmacies have received specialized training to help individuals with their asthma medications and treatments.

Evaluation

This component comprehensively monitors and evaluates identified indicators, and short and long-term outcomes at an individual, organizational, and community level for the CASL project.
